Developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 1900's, this method of full body conditioning consists of over 600 precisely designed exercises on the mat and various apparatus. The hand crafted pieces of equipment are constructed with variable spring resistance which builds long and lean musculature and allows for synergistic muscle engagement. Pilates focuses on strengthening the deep abdominal and postural muscles that support and stabilize the spine, creating length and strength in the muscles, increased coordination and flexibility, and proper body alignment. The Pilates method is perfect for individuals who wish to improve their overall fitness level or for those suffering from injuries or chronic pain.

The Pilates method is inherently rehabilitative in that it strengthens every muscle in the body with no strain on the joints. Because of this, everyone is an excellent candidate for this form of rehabilitation. Pilates works holistically to treat the source of the problem, correcting asymmetries and weakness to prevent re-injury and restore balance. When the body is properly aligned and stabilized, chronic pain is often diminished or completely alleviated.
